Know the New CPSC Regulations - It's the Law. Cribs purchased prior ot 2011 may not meet the new regulations set forth on December 2010. HARDWARE must be made with anti-loosening devices MATTRESS SUPPORT must be more durable and withstand more weight OOD SLATS must be stronger and made betterr DROP SIDES cribs are no longer allowed FETY TESTING is more rigorous and demandingSAFETY TESTING is more rigorous and demanding You may also be required to keep a Certificate of Compliance on hand for each crib style that you utilize. *Manufacturers are also required to attach labeling to each crib with important contact informaiton, the name of each regulation that the crib complys with and Manufacturing Information On December 28, 2010 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) implemented sweeping new crib safety standards for traditional cribs made from steel and wood. In addition to eliminating drop-sides, they require extensive new structural enhancements, new labeling, and allow for alternate designs for accessing infants such as a drop-gate crib side. Under the new guidelines no traditional cribs, neither fixed-side nor drop-side, may remain in service after December 28, 2012 that are not compliant to these new standards and, as a result, must be replaced.
